UNACTO marks the 77th UN Day at the Toronto Reference Library

TORONTO, ON—In celebration of the UN’s 77th anniversary on 24 October 2022, the United Nations Association in Canada Toronto Region Branch (UNACTO) is hosting UN Day 77: Toronto Partners for the Goals, to bring together a diverse set of organizations, groups and individuals that are actively working towards the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This gathering is in support of the UN Member States’ common agenda, reaffirming the purposes and principles of the UN Charter that have guided us for the past 77 years in reaching our shared global goals of peace, dignity and equality on a healthy planet.

In 1945, representatives of 50 countries met in San Francisco at the UN Conference on International Organization to draw up the UN Charter. The United Nations officially came into existence on 24 October 1945, when the Charter had been ratified by a majority of signatories. Watch history in the making with this footage from the UN archives.

The event will highlight SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, as we aim to activate attendees to collaborate in solving some of the world’s most challenging issues: climate change, inequality and peace and security.

The event will feature a keynote address by Ms. Rasha Al-Katta and Dr. Kristy Faccer.
