Beyond the Screen: Representation in Canadian Content

Gender identity, disability, indigeneity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, income and religion are intersecting aspects and characteristics that make who we are. The idea of diversity is particularly woven into Canada’s social fabric; at times a source of national pride. With a growing film and television industry at home, Canadians want to see this diversity expressed in Canadian content. Creating a more diverse and inclusive media landscape is one way Canadians can take action towards Sustainable Development Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities.

In an intersectional discussion focused on representation in Canadian media, panellists spotlighted the challenges and solutions towards reducing inequalities both behind the scenes and in front of the cameras, examining how the Canadian media industry is progressing with inclusion and diversity in its content.
