Step up for Parity: The Global Pledge Towards Planet 50-50


UNACTO marked International Women's Day 2016 on 19 March, celebrating the economic, political, cultural, and social achievements of women.

Step up for Parity: The Global Pledge Towards Planet 50-50 was a call to action towards accelerating gender parity and the empowerment of women, locally and globally. Based on the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal to have a 50-50 planet by 2030, in accordance with the Beijing Declaration, the event sought to encourage individuals to pledge for equality.

 

Keynote Address A deep discussion on violence against women, including a keynote address from the Community Engagement Manager of White Ribbon, Kevin Vowles and the founder of the Fight Like a Girl Campaign, Elliott Bayev.

Women in the Workplace Exploring and evaluating the roles women play in male dominated fields, along with the action put forth by major businesses, including TD Canada Trust, to accelerate gender parity and diversity with TD Diversity Talent Manager Sharon Chung. Special guest appearance by the Hon. Maria Minna, Member of Parliament for Beaches-East York.

Women and Entrepreneurialism Toronto’s most influential entrepreneurs shared with us their most lucrative routines, strategies, experiences, failures, and success stories, as well as how to make it in the world of social media! Panelists include Felicia Pizzonia, Jacquila Rose, Domanique Grant, Casie Stewart, and Melissa Maher.

Plus special performances by Vanessa Elisa, Kathryn Lawler, and award-winning singer and songwriter Domanique Grant!
