71st United Nations Day Flag Raising at Toronto City Hall

71st UN Day at Toronto City Hall

UNACTO Journal: Read our recap.

On 22 October, we marked the 71st UN Day at Toronto City Hall with a flag raising ceremony and reception.

Here's what our guests had to say about the event:

"71 years young! I felt privileged to be joining in the United Nations 71st anniversary celebration hosted by UNACTO.

We were reminded by our speakers of the numerous achievements accomplished during that time and also that the United Nations is a global force for positive change on the international stage. Our Toronto branch replicates their projects to assist those in the local community. Service to others is their mission.

Congratulations to Syed Khusro and his colleagues for presenting an exemplary recognition ceremony that was professionally delivered.

I leave you to ponder these quotes that reflect the values of the United Nations:

“United we stand, divided we fall”

“We are either part of the problem or part of the solution”

These words of wisdom call us to action and I am proud to be a collegial contributor."

—Dr. Ashleigh Molloy, Director of the TransEd Institute

"Members of the public were invited, in addition to UNACTO Members and various dignitaries. The event was held on Saturday, rather than Monday, October 24th to promote more participation and avoid work schedule conflicts.

The morning started with three presentations relating to the Sustainable Development Goals as well as President Syed sharing the purpose and efforts of UNACTO to bring awareness and assistance to the UN efforts.

Following the formal program, we went outside for another short ceremony, which included the United Nations flag being raised while our Canada national anthem was played. Following this, we released several white doves, symbolic of our hope for world peace.

An enjoyable time of fellowship and visitation ended the event, with refreshments and cake cutting."
